Abada Club Announces Debut in Madrid

Abada Club

Abada Club wants to set a new standard.

What’s happening: The high-end fitness chain will open in Madrid’s Salamanca district this September.

Scaling up, developer One Gym Club plans to invest €60M to reach 10 sites in the Spanish capital by 2030.

All in one. CEO Jaime Gross—former chief of Viding Fitness—is positioning the holistic health hub as “the reference” for the country’s premium sector, featuring:

  • An 850-sq-m gym floor with smart equipment, EGYM biometric assessments and recovery zones.
  • Four boutique fitness studios spanning traditional and hot yoga, barre, bootcamp, boxing and immersive cycling synced with a 30m curved screen.
  • Social and co-working areas served by Starbucks, plus pop-up spaces for brand promotions and events.

Capital Gains

Topping €2.3B and 5.7M members in 2023, Spain’s fitness market is in growth mode. While HVLPs expand, premium brands are scaling up, especially in Madrid.

  • WeMet acquired three Holmes Place clubs in Madrid and two in Barcelona from Basic-Fit in June.
  • Metropolitan opened its third club in the capital, reaching a Spanish network of 20.
  • David Lloyd unveils its fourth Madrid club this winter, extending to eight in Spain.

Meanwhile, the boutique scene is booming, with TRIB3 prepping its fifth Madrid studio, F45 planning its FS8 launch in Q1’25 and Distrito Estudio earmarking the city for expansion.

Takeaway: Spotting an opening, Gross is hoping to fend off foreign competition with the “100% Spanish investment” in Abada Club. But with the country’s gym-going population rising, premium rivals are taking notice.
